YEAR VISITED: 2020

FAVORITE CITIES AND EXPERIENCES: In 2020 we drove the two hours from Philadelphia to Millsboro, Delaware. Millsboro is the new home of family friend, Betty Peper.

For years Betty lived in Myrtle Point near Jill’s parents before making the move to Delaware to be closer to her sons. Not only is she one of the nicest human beings I have ever met, she also proved to be a wonderful host. She welcomed us into her house, cooked us dinner, made us snacks, and even left mints on our pillows.

Needless to say, Millsboro served as a perfect home base for our Delaware adventures.
SPORTING EVENTS AND/OR STADIUMS: We have not attended any sporting events in Delaware.
ADVENTURE(S): The Green, or public square, in oldtown Dover is where representatives cast their vote to support the Constitution way back in 1787. In fact Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution thus earning the nickname, “The First State.”

The public square is also the area where the Delaware Regiment, one of the finest battalions assembled during the revolutionary war, met up and organized prior to battle. The Green is directly in front of the Old State House and directly around the corner is the Golden Fleece Tavern.

The Golden Fleece is where representatives from all counties in Delaware met for days to debate the merits of a federal constitution. These representatives ultimately agreed to sign the Constitution, thus leading the way for the birth of the United States of America.

The entire old downtown area is a historical site with many of the buildings dating back to, or even before, the American Revolution.

Around the corner from the Old State House, down a couple more blocks, is the Delaware State Capital building. The entire area is known as the “Capital Square Complex.” This building has served the state since 1931.

NOTABLE DESTINATIONS & STOPS: We spent a perfect sun filled day at Rehoboth Beach. Prior to our trip, I had no idea just how beautiful Delaware beaches were. This was as close to a Southern California beach I have experienced on the upper east coast.

A boardwalk followed the shoreline with restaurants, shops, and tourist stores. However, we mainly spent a relaxing afternoon sitting in the sand and jumping waves.

A word to the wise, arrive early in the summer months as it fills up early.
